What is the ripple project?

Find out more about ripple. Before the formation of modern-day ripple, a web developer with a particular interest in decentralised systems named Ryan Fugger founded the ‘original’ ripple project in 2004 with the ambition of creating a ‘new kind of monetary system based on the trust present in our ordinary social and business relationships’.

Where did ripple come from?

Fugger’s idea for Ripple comes from far back as 2004 and its first manifestation was called RipplePay. Discussions with Chris Larsen and Jed McCaleb led to the latter two taking over the direction of Ripple. Having taken over the reins from Fugger, the Ripple protocol then began to be developed by Ripple Labs.

Why did Larsen & McCaleb start ripple?

Larsen and McCaleb then became the founders of Ripple, an endeavour that, as confident as they are in the value of an Internet of Value, even they would not have believed would have grown so much and so quickly.

Who has backed ripple?

Since rebranding itself as ripple, it has welcomed further notable backers, including Standard Chartered, Accenture Ventures, SCB Digital Ventures, the venture arm of Siam Commercial Bank and SBI Holdings. Additional investors include Santander InnoVentures, CME Ventures, Seagate Technology and Venture 51.
